Leak To Us
If you have information or documents that you think would be useful for our investigations, please get in touch. We welcome speaking with sources on the record, on background or anonymously, depending on your situation and the sensitivity of the information. If you want to shield your identity from us, then there are methods described on this page that enable you to do that. If you are not looking for complete anonymity, then feel free to contact us by email or whichever other method works best, or reach out directly to a member of the Documented team. If you want to remain anonymous to the public but are willing to share your identity with us, we can work with you on that basis as well.
You can email non-sensitive tips and files to Documented at: [email protected], but please be aware that email is not always secure. For added protection, use PGP to encrypt your email, but even this does not provide guaranteed anonymity. If you want to email a specific member of the Documented team, you can find more contact information on the About Us page.

SecureDrop, a system developed by Aaron Swartz and utilized by many prominent media outlets, is a way to safely send messages and files that provides a high degree of security and anonymity.
If you are sending Documented highly sensitive materials, or if you need full anonymity, we would recommend using SecureDrop. For more on how to do this see here.
Signal is an end-to-end encrypted messaging app and is one of the most secure methods of contacting Documented. In order to increase security, we recommend you set your messages to disappear whenever you begin a new conversation using the app. If you want to increase anonymity, we suggest purchasing a cheap so-called “burner phone”, and a prepaid sim card, which will not be otherwise connected to you.

Though slow, using the U.S. Postal Service to send us information is also very secure and gives the sender the ability to mask their identity. To ensure privacy, do not include a return address and use a neighborhood box rather than going to the post office.
