Foundation for Government Accountability Sends Mississippi Secretary of State March 2023 Draft ESG Rule
Published on January 5, 2024On March 6, 2023 Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson emailed the Foundation for Government Accountability's (FGA) State Government Affairs Director and Visiting Fellow at the Opportunity Solutions Project, FGA's (c)(4) arm, Allen Cambon. Watson asked Cambon for the "language or approach [he'd] suggest to attack ESG" within the Secretary of State's Securities Division.
On March 13, 2023 Cambon emailed Watson with a "draft rule" requiring "investment advisors to disclose and obtain consent from a client when they recommend a financial product for social or non-financial reasons." Cambon noted the draft rule was "the same rule that Sec. Ashcroft proposed in Missouri and the legislature is now moving to codify."
