Honest Elections Project Held "Leadership Summit" with Secretaries of State, May 4-7, 2023 at Amelia Island, Florida
Published on May 25, 2023On May 4-7, 2023, Leonard Leo's Honest Elections Project held a "leadership summit" at the oceanfront Omni Amelia Island Resort off the Florida coast, according to email correspondence obtained by Documented.
"On an annual basis, we are able to bring together leaders and champions of the right to vote in fair and honest elections," Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead wrote in an email inviting Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft to "speak on a panel featuring secretaries of state from across the country."
Ashcroft confirmed participation in the panel, and Honest Elections Project covered travel, lodging, and meal costs at the event, which was held at an Omni property that advertises "unparalleled oceanfront luxury". The identities of the other secretaries of state who participated are not known.
The Honest Elections Project was founded by Leonard Leo to promote restrictive voting laws. The group also co-hosted a secretive conference for Secretaries of State in March 2023 with the Heritage Foundation and the Public Interest Legal Foundation, according to reporting by Documented and The Guardian.
