Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is scheduled to appear at an August 23rd fundraiser for the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), alongside the Republican nominee for Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron.

Cameron is looking to become the first Republican Attorney General in Kentucky since 1948. A copy of the invitation was obtained by Documented (see below).

Cameron previously worked for McConnell as a staff lawyer from 2015 to 2017. He won the Republican nomination after a heated and at times bizarre GOP primary held in May. After Cameron accused his opponent, State Senator Wil Schroder, of being a “secret democrat”, Schroder released a video of him shooting a television and proclaiming his support for President Trump’s border polices.

Cameron is running against the Democratic nominee Greg Stumbo. The general election has already turned heated with the Cameron campaign releasing a video in which he calls Stumbo “a deadbeat dad.”

Donald Trump announced his support for Cameron via tweet on Monday.

July 29th, 2019 tweet from Donald Trump.

According to a July 30th press release from RAGA, it has already begun placing digital ads supporting Cameron and attacking Stumbo, including launching a website - stumboswithher.com - that aligns the democrat with Hillary Clinton.

RAGA is a 527 organization that is able to raise unlimited funds from corporations to spend influencing elections. It claimed in July 2018 to have raised $26.6million to spend that year backing Republican state Attorney General candidates.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, major contributors to RAGA include Koch industries, The National Rifle Association, the Judicial Crisis Network (which pushed the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh), Walmart, and Reynolds American.

Since Trump became President, RAGA has held a series of its own events at Trump hotels around the country.

A statement from RAGA after Cameron's primary win read: "RAGA is fully committed to ensuring Daniel Cameron is Kentucky’s first Republican attorney general since 1948.”
